Alison is the Course Director of the Bachelor of Design at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. Her area of research is virtual heritage - the 3D digitisation of cultural sites and objects.
​
Alison's research explores the use of immersive and emerging technologies to interpret and communicate cultural heritage with emphasis on user experience and affective engagement. Her work includes virtual reality, augmented reality, video and online shared experiences. She has explored issues of presence, or the feeling of really being there, and how that influences the memorability of virtual experiences.

Virtual heritage research projects that Alison has been involved in include Re-living the experience of innovation: a VR-led recreation of the Italian Pavilion at the Paris International Exposition of 1937 and ‘Triennale Virtuale’, creating virtual reality experiences of lost architecture from the Milan Triennale exhibitions of the 1930s.
